Stylish product, dockable, beats my WD Passport drives - usb portable hard disk drive Seagate FreeAgent Go 500 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive ST905003FGA2E1-RK (Silver)
I am a professional photographer, the two portable players per year (I exchange copies on-site and off-) site after each session. Western Digital (WD) used stuffed Passport Portable are 320 GB each to the brim with the work of my cousin, "2008." The desire to keep the data on it, I went to buy two computers more portable, and found the models GO 500 GB Seagate.
You really can not go wrong with either player (both companies offer a broad five-year) warranty, but I like the format of Seagate a little better (as a fraction of an inch smaller all the dimensions, but they are even thinner as they are). In addition, Amazon is now offering a promotion of a free port with drives from Seagate, a little like an iPod docking station - simply drag the device into the connector and mounted on the desktop. Practical and stylish. WD does not have this option.
The disadvantage of using Seagate Pier (is why I give this 4-star, No. 5) that, for reasons we do not understand, is spread over two USB ports on your computer. You need to be fed in.RTS can not grow old with a USB hub (at least not working with my one years, and my iMac at the mall for Cheapo - your mileage may vary). The alternative is, is a hub, or only with a pen, instead of buying the player directly to a single USB port on your computer using the supplied cable.
Speaking of USB connections: In addition to the dock, another advantage of the Seagate drive in the WD Passport, it seems to be more energy efficient. At least, I use an aging Seagate with my Powerbook and a (supplied) cable with no problems. WD, but not mount on the desktop of my PowerBook when I get a maximum of three special "overkill" USB (buy cables) have won two ports on the machine. This may be a small thing, but it is significant for me. With Seagate finally, you can draw a large hard disk into a shirt pocket or other small space and to use the device on the street no longer has a required mini-USB standard regular (included) - no extra cables, no electricity.
TheRe is also a Mac version of the drive. Inadvertently, I bought the PC version, but it makes no difference, I think the thing works fine, no drivers necessary. The Mac version includes platform-specific backup software and perhaps a few other goodies that are not necessary or do not want to miss.
Because of the nature of file systems and the number of bits and bytes are counted in the computer industry, is the usable capacity of 500 GB Seagate 465Gb effectively. What is "default" is to apply to any unit on the market to consider, however - not much but something.
Seagate speed is in order: on my Mac, it took less than 4 minutes to a value of 5 concerts copy "file is small enough. So it's neither a speed demon or is lazy.
One thing that is on the dock with a relatively smooth, black leather padded cover for the device. The bonus should really have been included in the box instead of the dock, but I'm not complaining. Units come without passport case or sleeve, and I paid another $ 30 for two Case Logic soft side cases time. I will also continue to use the Case Logic for Seagate GO, such as Seagate, equipped with its own leather sleeves that fit snugly in the cover design Case Logic - double protection and peace.
